Office Building, Bahnhofstrasse 78, Zurich
1st Place in Competition
The existing office building at Bahnhofstrasse 78 was demolished down to the two basement levels and replaced by a modern new building executed as a timber-concrete hybrid construction.
The ceilings consist of wooden beams and a concrete slab above, which act in combination as a composite. Due to the lightweight ceiling construction, the existing floor slab did not have to be reinforced and could thus be integrated into the new building, as could the exterior walls of the existing basement levels. The horizontal stabilisation of the building is provided by slender reinforced concrete walls.
