Expansion of Heerbrugg Cantonal School
1st Place in Competition
The new construction and conversion of Heerbrugg Cantonal School includes a new middle wing and refurbishment of an existing gymnasium and west wing. The new construction, with an underground floor and three upper floors, connects directly to the existing building.
The above-ground floors of the new middle wing are largely designed as prefabricated construction. The floor slabs, which span up to 19 m wide, are made with prefabricated ribbed slabs prestressed in a stressing bed. The internal walls and interior columns were constructed of in-situ concrete. The supporting structure of the façade is made of prefabricated square columns arranged at spacing of 1.4 m.
