Expansion of Hirslanden Hospital, Zurich
As part of a strategy for Zurich, the Garden Wing was executed for the Hirslanden Group in 2007 and the Enzenbühl Wing, a new building, in 2011.
The Garden Wing is a five-story new building with ground-plan area of 80 m x 55 m in the courtyard of the existing hospital grounds. The Enzenbühl Wing has eight storeys on a ground-plan area of 90 m x 17 m. Both new buildings were constructed as grid constructions according to a reinforced concrete method, thus allowing high flexibility of use. Due to the slope water and a confined groundwater level, extensive buoyancy-control measures were required consisting of a pressure-relief layer of broken stones under the foundation slab and permanent anti-buoyancy anchors.
