Hochwacht Lägern mountain restaurant renovation
The central part of the Hochwacht Lägern, built in 1895, was renovated parallel to the construction of the new restaurant building. Thanks to extensive restoration work, the walls of Lägern limestone ashlars could be preserved and are partly visible in the new restaurant. The new building is a timber construction that encompasses the core building and accords a magnificent view.
The core building has a floor area of 9.4 x 8.0 m and is 10 m high. Its ground floor accommodates the Hoferstube, which was also restored during the conversion work, and an apartment for the tenants on the upper floor and attic. The existing steel girder and timber beam ceilings were replaced by reinforced concrete ceilings during the conversion work. Additional preparation, utility and store rooms were created in the basement, which had to be underpinned in stages, thanks to the newly-won room height. The timber frame supporting structure of the new building means that there are hardly any pillars in the interior space, which can thus be used flexibly. And thanks to the big window facades with electrochromic glass, visitors enjoy a clear view over the Furt and Wehn valleys, even in bright sunshine.
