Conversion and Expansion of Obstgarten School Complex, Stäfa

The existing music auditorium wing was completely demolished down to the underground floor. On the ground floor, a new library was constructed on top of the existing underground floor, and a community hall was built on the upper floor.

The structural system of the community hall essentially comprises a "concrete box", which is supported on individual cores on the ground floor. The ceiling above the community hall is made of prefabricated ribbed slabs prestressed and in a stressing bed. The ceiling above the ground floor is constructed as a flat ceiling that is supported on the cores and individual interior support columns. The concrete walls present on the upper floor act as long-span panels that transfer the loads from the ceiling of the upper floor onto the cores. The core walls were run through the underground floor and founded on micropiles. The two classroom wings were enlarged laterally on each floor by the size of a group room and strengthened for earthquakes.
