Skyway link for Coop Distribution Centre, Schafisheim
A double-decker skyway link, 162 m in length, passes over Rupperswilerstrasse to connect a new logistics and production building with existing buildings. The lower level serves as a link for people, while the upper level is used to transport pallets.
The structural system of the skywalk is a two-span beam with span lengths of 75.6 m and 67.2 m. The two-story cross-section of the skywalk is 7.3 m wide and 8.3 m high (system dimen-sions). The main supporting structure is made of steel and consists of two trusses in the longitudinal walls and transverse beams in slab and roof levels. The secondary supporting structure of the three slab levels is made of prefabricated concrete ribbed slabs. A reinforced concrete overlay joins the concrete elements to form continuous plates. The bridge was welded together in four main elements while on the ground in an on-site workshop. The elements were assembled using two mobile cranes, by fitting the elements for each span together separately in the air and lowering them onto the piers.
