Refurbishing of Zollikerstrasse Greenhouse at the Botanical Garden of Zurich
The University of Zurich’s research greenhouse was built in 2004/2005. Leaks, cracked and in part clouded glass panes in the roof made it necessary to plan a complete refurbishment of the glass roof just ten years after it had been constructed.
In the course of analysing its condition, it became evident that the construction had no wind braces, and the workmanship had allowed leaks and other problems to arise. The steel con-struction was retained, reinforced by wind bracing and fitted with a completely new glass rooftop. After extensive measurements, the glass panes were selected such that they largely matched the existing glass, but without the high amount of heat input that the old glazing had.
