Road Bridge over Lake Grimsel, Guttannen
In the unique surroundings of the Grimsel, a good balance between cost and aesthetics plays an important role in the broader sense of the landscape. With its light, modern, transparent elegance, the bridge is to form a contrast with the massiveness of the landscape and the bulk-iness of the gravity dam wall built in the old style.
The draft developed by Prof. Dr. C. Menn proposes a cable-stayed bridge. In this high moun-tain region, in addition to the usual, standardised influences, the concept of the bridge must in terms of its technical requirements regarding safety, longevity and usability, above all also be able to cope with extreme, local stresses arising from wind, snow and ice. The two 75-m high pylons are located directly on the lake shore and form the ends of the bridge spanning 350 m. The bridge girder will be constructed using two concrete-lined steel hat sections as the main longitudinal girders and prefabricated concrete carriageway elements. The girder is held every 8.25 m by a pair of inclined cables.
